Hi! My name is Micayla Valentin and I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Human Relations and Spanish. Throughout my undergraduate journey, I have had the opportunity to grow in my passions for travel, social justice, and empowering those who are marginalized or oppressed.

Through my 6-month study abroad journey to Chile, I developed intercultural competence and fluency in Spanish that I hope to grow in and use in my future endeavors. With my human relations degree, I was able to help organize the Shadow Project which brought a group of first-generation high school seniors to the University of Oklahoma to learn about resources available to them and show them that college is a possibility for them if they decide they want to pursue higher education. Additionally, I interned as a court and hospital advocate with the YWCA where I took an active role in their mission of eliminating racism and empowering women.

I plan to go to graduate school to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Becoming an LCSW will allow me to live out my passions of fighting for social justice by providing trauma-informed services and advocating for those who are marginalized or oppressed.
