Future career

My dream career would be to work for the ACLU, or American Civil Liberties Union, which defends and expands on civil rights and liberties for everyone. I have admired the ACLU’S consistent work and determination for justice and equality for everyone in this country. Reflecting on all that I have learned and gained from the HR department here at OU has largely influenced the path that I am hoping to take regarding a career. Because of human relations I have a better understanding of others, and a deep appreciation for the complexity that makes us who we are individually. I am able to acknowledge systems of oppression that are in place and then use my privilege to deconstruct those unfair systems. In our current society there is no place for systems that advantage others by disadvantaging another, and the ACLU has been fighting against these systems for a long time.

I feel that my past experiences and passion for people has motivated my decision to go to law school and that a J.D will allow me to further help people to the best of my ability. My ability to critically think in different scenarios has helped me to see things from many different perspectives. This skill is necessary for thinking about instances not only in a logical sense but from a human sense as well. Furthermore, I have a very strong understanding of individuals and believe that the compassion and empathy I have for others is extremely important for a position with the ACLU.
