My dream career is to work as a mental health counselor. I am specifically drawn to working with pre-professional athletes, ideally dancers. I want to work with these young adults on how to withstand the mental toll dance takes on a person. Growing up in the world of dance, I always knew the way dancers and their bodies were treated was abnormal, but I didn’t think there was anything I could do about it. My Social Change Process class taught me that I am capable of creating change and gave me the tools necessary to begin that process. Other courses, such as Sexism in Modern America, Cultural Awareness, and Intro to Counseling, furthered my understanding of what my role as a helper is in society.
