Hello! My name is Derica Smith and am graduating from the University of Oklahoma with a Human Relations Major and Minor in Psychology. I am completing my degree in three years, then onto graduate school. I originally came to college with a different plan, but life doesn’t always go according to plan! Human Relations sparked my interest by its mission to promote diversity and inclusion, cultural competence, human interaction, and fighting all social issues.

Throughout my undergrad, I was heavily involved in my sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated participating in high scholastic standards and community service to everyone. I was also involved in the Black Student Association where I served on the executive board, a Gateway Peer Teaching Assistant, and Student Society of Human Relations. Through Human Relations, I had the opportunity to take Service Learning where I was able to work with a local foster care agency, then was able to present my Service Learning Project at the 13th Annual Service Learning Conference.

After graduation, I will be starting my graduate program pursuing Adult and Higher Education here at OU (future 2x Alumna)! I am passionate about creating safe spaces for students and equipping them with the resources to have an amazing college experience. My Human Relations degree has equipped me with the necessary skills and I’m ready to take on my future career!
